Description
A man's hand can be seen waving across the apartheid wall at Baia Mare. He waves as if to say, "I am here." The shadow of his hand is the only part of him that can be seen on the other side. On the other side, the side of privilege, the side that the infrastructure allows to everyone else, is the side that he exists as merely a shadow. Birds, non-humans, can go anywhere - to fly anywhere they wish and yet this is about the human mentality that creates bigotry and prejudice against minorities. Yet there is still hope of some light being cast on the subject, even if it is the indirect light of the moon and direct light from some distant stars.
"Experience in other multi-ethnic countries has shown very clearly that recognizing and respecting the languages and cultures of minority populations strengthens national pride and is good for the whole country. A government which encourages members of its ethnic minorities to be proud of who they are is a government that will make those same people proud to live in such a country." - Ian Hancock, "We Are the Romani People", 2002
