Description
A full moon glows through a small window in the distance. Below the window, a Vardo wheel rests against the walls. One of the walls looks absent and the night sky wraps around, upon which a cabinet filled with plates hangs. The cabinet hangs on nothing. A brick floor leads into the foreground to present a table on which sits a vase filled with flowers. The cloth underneath is slipping from the table and the only thing that seems to be able to prevent it is the vase weighted down with roses. On the vase is a symbol of the wagon wheel. In a golden frame is a photograph of a Roma woman who gazes in the direction of the path.
The intention behind this painting is to pay tribute to the experiences of the Roma people. It is to state that you can be present in a society and country that you call your own and yet be shut out and evicted in a classic tale of social exclusion. It highlights the human rights violations that disturbingly occur today in the evictions and expulsions that plague the Roma people all across Europe. This painting is to honor you and your experience and hope that this mistreatment towards you will end.
